Summer is just around the corner, and this is the perfect time for a little garden maintenance to prepare your outdoor living space for the coming warm weather. For the past 4 or 5 months, your garden has been pretty much dormant, and as the new growing season emerges, here are a few gardening tasks that need to be completed.
- Pruning the Trees – Spring is the best time for tree pruning, just make sure you don’t cut odd new shoots and blossoms, as this would have a negative impact on growth. If you are at all unsure about tree pruning, there are affordable tree surgeons in Hertfordshire who can carry out essential pruning to prepare for the coming growth season.
- Tending the Borders – Your flower beds will need some attention, and by removing weeds, you can mulch in some compost, which will nourish the soil. Now is also a good time to plant flowers, in preparation for the summer, and your local gardening centre would stock many different species of flowers and shrubs.
- Trimming the Hedges – The hedgerows will already be showing new growth, so a trim is necessary to tidy up the lines. It isn’t a good idea to take too much new growth away, rather the least amount to achieve a straight line.
- Nourishing the Lawn – The lawn should be aerated by making holes with a fork, and you can also apply some lawn fertiliser, while also giving the grass a high cut that takes the top inch of the grass, which will prepare the lawn for the growing season.
Once your garden is looking good, a weekly tidy up with keep it looking good throughout the summer months.
